Betcha can't eat just one

Packed with chunky bits of Hershey’s and Reese’s candy bars, these decadent cookies are perfect for a kids' Halloween party, or for just hanging out any day of the week.

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup (2 sticks) butter or margarine, softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 eggs
Any combination Hershey’s and Reese’s candy bars to make 2 cups when chopped
1 cup chopped nuts (optional)

1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Cut candy into 1/2-inch pieces; set aside.

2. Stir together flour, baking soda, and salt. In separate large bowl, beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla with mixer until creamy. Add eggs; beat well. Gradually add flour mixture, beating well. Stir in candy pieces and nuts, if desired. Drop by rounded teaspoons onto ungreased cookie sheet.

3. Bake 9 to 11 minutes, or until lightly browned. Cool slightly; remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Cool completely.

Makes about 5 dozen cookies.

In a medium saucepan, melt 1-6 ounce package butterscotch chips over low heat, stirring constantly. [To microwave, place pieces in a micro-wave safe dish and cook on medium-low heat for about 1 minute. Stir well. If necessary, continue to heat chips, 20 seconds at a time, until they are melted. Be sure to stir chips each time you heat them.] Remove chips from the heat and stir in 1 cup salted peanuts and 3 cups chow mein noodles. Drop by teaspoons onto waxed paper and cool. Makes 30-40 grasshoppers.


Put chocolate pudding in clear plastic containers and imbed a gummy worm or two. Cover the top of the pudding with crushed chocolate cookie crumbs. It looks good if a worm is peeking out of the dirt.

4. Goblin Feet

Your children can probably imagine what actual goblin feet would taste like. (Dirty socks stuffed with cheese? Moldy tapioca pudding?) Luckily, these cookies are infinitely more tasty.

Half package (7 ounces) green meltable candy wafers
peanut butter cookies, such as Nutter Butter brand
cashew halves

Follow the instructions on the candy wafer package to melt the wafers in a wide bowl. For each goblin foot, hold the edge of a cookie and dip it in the melted candy.

Place the cookie on a sheet of waxed paper and use a spoon to smooth the candy over the spot your fingers covered.

Place three cashew halves on the cookie for claws. (The candy may need to cool a minute or two for it to be stiff enough to hold the nuts in place.) Let the cookies set at room temperature.
5. Hallowe'en Party Cupcakes

Categories: Cakes, Cake mixes

Yield: 30 Servings           

1 pk Pillsbury plus cake mix any flavor

1 cn Pillsbury Vanilla or chocolate frosting supreme
       Orange slice gumdrop candies (for pumpkins)
       Small green gumdrops (for pumpkins)
       Large black gumdrops (for cats)
       Large marshmallows (for ghosts)

Heat oven to 350 F. Line 24-30 muffin cups with paper baking cups. Prepare and bake cupckas according to package directions. remove from pans, cool completely. Spread top of cooled cupcakes with frosting.

TO MAKE EACH PUMPKIN:cut thin slice off of straight edge of 2 orange slices, press cut sides together to make pumpkin. Cut small green gumdrop into quarters, place a piece on top of pumpkin to make stem. Place on frosted cupcake.

TO MAKE EACH BLACK CAT: cut large black gumdrop crosswise into three equal slices. Place bottom and top slices, sugared side up, on top of cupcake to make head and body of cat. Cut thin strip from edge of center slice to make a curved tail; place on cat. Cut 2 small triangles and place on head for ears.

TO MAKE EACH GHOST:cut marshmallow in half with scizzors; flatten into ghost shape Place on frosted cupcake. cut two pieces of gumdrop and place on ghost to make eyes.

24-30 cupcakes

TIP: To soften marshmallows, place on microwave-safe waxed paper and microwave on HIGH for 5-8 seconds. HIGH ALTITUDE-- Above 3500: See package directions. Use a bit of imagination, the easy directions, and the assistance of a youngest to quickly create Hallowe'en treats for a classroom of monsters. Top the cupcakes with pumpkins,black cats and/or ghosts. The ghost look best on chocolate frosted cupcakes and the black cats look best on vanilla frosted cupcakes.

6. Pizza Mummies

Disguises aren't just for Halloween. Surprise your family with these dressed-up, spooky-looking snacks any time of year. Kids can help by spooning the pizza sauce on the English muffin and making the mummy face with the cheese and vegetables.

English muffins
Pizza sauce
Black olives
Red or green pepper
Cheese sticks or slices

Heat the oven to 350º F. For each mummy, spread a tablespoon of pizza sauce onto half of an English muffin (toast it first, if you like).

Set olive slices in place for eyes and add round slices of green onion or bits of red or green pepper for pupils.

Lay strips of cheese (we used a pulled-apart cheese stick) across the muffin for the mummy?s wrappings.

Bake for about 10 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the muffin is toasty.

7. Reese's Pieces Halloween Cookies

A sweet frosted cookie topped with Reese's Pieces

Why serve simple cookies when you can frost 'em, and then top 'em, with Reese's Pieces? The peanut buttery bits elevate this from a solid cookie recipe to one that's out of this world.

1/3 cup butter or margarine, softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup buttermilk or sour milk*
Vanilla Frosting (recipe follows)
Reese’s Pieces Candy or Reese’s Mini Pieces Candy

1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F.

2. Beat butter, sugar, brown sugar, egg, and vanilla in large bowl until well blended. Stir together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt; add alternately with buttermilk to butter mixture. Measure batter by scant 1/4 cupfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet.

3. Bake 12 to 14 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool slightly; remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Cool completely. Prepare Vanilla Frosting. Frost cookies; garnish with candy.

*To sour milk: Use 1 1/2 teaspoons white vinegar plus milk to equal 1/2 cup.

Vanilla Frosting:
Combine 3 cups powdered sugar, 3 tablespoons softened butter or margarine, 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract, and 1/4 cup milk in small bowl; beat until smooth.

Makes about 20 cookies
